About honeyberry
The word ‘honeyberry’ comes from the language of the Ainu, the natives of Japan, who have been eating the fruit of honeyberry for centuries, and in translation, it would mean ‘a multitude of gifts from a branch’. (Croatian goat’s blood or blue goat’s blood Latin Lonicera caerulea) is also known in our country under the name Siberian blueberry or Mayberry. In nature, this berry fruit species grows in Japan, China and Russia, so there is a long tradition of growing this fruit, while recently the cultivation has spread to some other European countries (Poland, Slovakia…) and Canada. Honeyberry is a dark blue/purple berry, ripens in late May, has an excellent and specific taste (between blueberry and plum… op.a.), a texture similar to kiwi and contains extremely high amounts of vitamins A, C and E, calcium, potassium and various antioxidants. therefore it has anticancer, antimutagenic, anti-inflammatory and anti-allergic effects. Honeyberry tastes great and can be eaten raw, can be processed into fruit juice, jams, various alcoholic beverages, added to yoghurt or sauces when preparing game or red meat dishes, or be the main ingredient in ice cream or smoothies and are reportedly Soviet astronauts carried honeyberry juice into space to stay fit and healthy.
