The tradition written by wine

Šafran Winery is proud of its historical continuity in viticulture and winemaking, which according to written documents dates back to 1692. Nowadays, the vineyards, the cellar and the entire winery program are a plus to the image of Metalproduct, the umbrella company of the Šafran family.

We are among the largest wineries in Varaždin County, and our vineyards cover about twenty hectares of hilly slopes of Hum and Breznica vineyards.

About 90,000 vines are planted on suitable soil and in ideal positions on the gently sloping sunny slopes of the picturesque hilly region. It is an area that continues from the west to the mountain Ivančica, from the north to the Varaždin vineyards, east to the mountain Kalnik, while from the south our vineyard positions touch the goldsmith area with a view of the northern part of Medvednica.

Šafran Winery grew out of a centuries-old family tradition of growing vines and producing wine. It is equipped with the most modern equipment for grape processing, fermentation, maturation and storage of wine.

More than half of the work in wine production is done in our vineyards, where every change and care for sustainable development and ecological postulates are closely monitored.

State-of-the-art technology continues in the basement. In our winery, the technological units of wine production and maturation are completely separated. In the first part of the cellar there is a space for grape processing and wine fermentation, and the second, special part of the cellar, is arranged for wine maturation. In accordance with the most modern methods and with the constant care of oenologists and cellarmen, we produce high-quality wines, which are stored depending on the variety and technology in stainless steel and wooden barrels, with a total capacity of 500,000 litres.

Within the winery, there is a bottling plant with an internal laboratory for the control of must and wine, and in the upper part of the building, there are also tasting rooms and offices. Our wines regularly win the highest awards at exhibitions and evaluations in the country and abroad.

This year we had again a very successful late harvest of dried Graševina berries.
